# Connect Codex

> Codex is optional. Winskel runs Codex under your existing account when it is installed and signed in.

- Applies to: Winskel public download 0.7.0-alpha.1 (alpha channel), Apple Silicon, macOS 12 or later
- Content updated: 2026-10-06
- Agent reference: https://www.winskel.com/agents.md

## Optional

With Codex signed in, Winskel can route work to Codex models such as GPT-5.6 Sol, and you can name Codex for part of an objective. Claude Code is still required: a Mac with Codex but no Claude Code cannot start work.

## Sign in first

Open Codex on your Mac and complete its normal sign-in before starting a route that uses Codex. Winskel detects the local app and connects automatically, then reads the local Codex catalog for models your account can run.

```
codex --version
```

## Checks on Codex work

Codex runs its commands inside its own sandbox, and Winskel does not run your project's checks on work Codex writes there. A Codex step therefore shows as not verified unless Codex itself ran a check and reported the result, and Claude Code reviews the result before Winskel continues.

## Confirm in Winskel

Open Settings, then Agents, and check that Codex is available. Winskel does not collect or store your Codex credentials.
